Creating a Graded Discussion

Harmonize Discussions can either be graded or non-graded.  In this article, we'll describe how to create a graded discussion in each of the 4 main Learning Management Systems (LMS).

  1. Canvas
  2. Blackboard
    1. Original Course View
    2. Ultra Course View
  3. Brightspace
    1. Original Content Experience
    2. New Content Experience (Lessons)
  4. Moodle

Canvas

  1. Within your course, navigate to Assignments and click the + Assignment buttonCanvas Course Assignments Add Assignment
  2. Give the assignment a name and set the appropriate number of points
  3. In the Submission Type section, select External Tool as the type and click the Find buttonCanvas Assignment Submission Type External Tool Find Button
  4. In the dialog that appears, find the option labeled Harmonize Assignment, select it and click the Select buttonCanvas Assignment Configure External Tool Dialog
  5. Finally, either click the Save or Save & Publish button on the New Assignment page

Blackboard

The steps for adding a graded discussion in Blackboard are slightly different depending on which course view you are using.

Original Course View

  1. Within your course, navigate to Content, open the Build Content menu and select the Harmonize optionBlackboard Learn Course Course Content Build Content Menu
  2. In the Institution Tools section, find and select HarmonizeBlackboard Content Market Institution Tools Section Harmonize Option
  3. In the resource selector that appears, click on the Discussion option and select Create NewHarmonize Resource Selector Discussion Option Create New Button
  4. Enter a name for the discussion, select the Graded option, enter the appropriate number of points and click the Create Discussion buttonHarmonize Resource Selector Create Discussion Form

Ultra Course View

  1. Within your course, click on the + button in Course Content and select the Content Market optionBlackboard Course Content Add Menu Content Market Option
  2. In the Institution Tools section, find and select HarmonizeBlackboard Content Market Institution Tools Section Harmonize Option
  3. In the resource selector that appears, click on the Discussion option and select Create NewHarmonize Resource Selector Discussion Option Create New Button
  4. Enter a name for the discussion, select the Graded option, enter the appropriate number of points and click the Create Discussion buttonHarmonize Resource Selector Create Discussion Form

Brightspace

The steps for adding a graded discussion in Brightspace are slightly different depending on which content experience you are using.

Original Content Experience

  1. Within your course, navigate to Content, add a new module or select an existing module, open the Existing Activities menu and select the Harmonize optionBrightspace Course Content Existing Activities Menu
  2. In the resource selector that appears, click on the Discussion option and select Create NewHarmonize Resource Selector Discussion Option Create New Button
  3. Enter a name for the discussion, select the Graded option, enter the appropriate number of points and click the Create Discussion buttonHarmonize Resource Selector Create Discussion Form

New Content Experience (Lessons)

  1. Within your course, navigate to Content, add a new module or select an existing module and click the Add Existing button
  2. In the menu that appears, find and select the Harmonize optionBrightspace Course Content Add Existing Menu Options
  3. In the resource selector that appears, click on the Discussion option and select Create NewHarmonize Resource Selector Discussion Option Create New Button
  4. Enter a name for the discussion, select the Graded option, enter the appropriate number of points and click the Create Discussion buttonHarmonize Resource Selector Create Discussion Form

Moodle

  1. Within your course, turn on content editing, add a new topic or find an existing topic and click the + Add an activity or resource link
  2. In the dialog that appears, find and select the Harmonize optionMoodle Add An Activity or Resource Dialog
  3. On the new activity page, click on the Select content buttonMoodle Add Activity Page Select content Button
  4. In the resource selector that appears, click on the Discussion option and select Create NewHarmonize Resource Selector Discussion Option Create New Button
  5. Enter a name for the discussion, select the Graded option, enter the appropriate number of points and click the Create Discussion buttonHarmonize Resource Selector Create Discussion Form
  6. Click either the Save and return to course button or the Save and display button

Harmonize Support
